Observational studies highlight that tactile interaction with a living organism significantly contributes to the reduction of anxiety and stress. In this context, the Breathing Egg serves not only as a technical artifact but as a systematically designed entity aimed at providing a calming and supportive experience for the user.
The Breathing Egg was conceived both as a concept for therapeutic applications and as an engineering challenge. The central objective was to comprehensively emulate the respiratory dynamics of a ribcage onto the geometric form of an egg.
In pursuit of this objective, a deliberate choice was made to abstain from pneumatic components. Instead, the integration encompassed electronic and mechanical elements distinguished by enhanced everyday practicality.
Within the context of an iterative design process, specific 3D-printed structures and elements were developed. These were engineered to translate the rotational movements of an electric motor into a regulated respiratory frequency. The haptic feedback of the artifact remains compressible, mirroring the biomechanical characteristics of a ribcage.
